Friday Favourites: Styling a Boden Dress for Spring

Welcome to this week’s Friday Favourites! I thought I would try something a bit different in response to readers who had asked for more style posts, and some ideas about accessorising.

Well, I don’t need much persuasion to research and write about pretty dresses, shoes, and handbags!

We’re in mid-March, which can sometimes make it difficult to know what to wear. Will winter have it’s final hurrah meaning we still have to dress up in layers? Or will spring tease us with an early flourish of warmth?

The uncertainty means it’s good to have items in your wardrobe that are versatile so you can add or remove layers according to the weather to avoid boiling or freezing in our fickle British weather. Even better there are some ideas for styling the dress from day wear to going out in the evening.

I spotted this gorgeous Boden dress that is perfect for the task. It’s available in a range of different colours, and my favourite is the poppy red collage floral:

You may know, dear reader, that I love colour – the more in an outfit the better! I know that some of you are reluctant to try colour – I hope these ideas give you the confidence to try even one piece of bright colour in your spring wardrobe.

I think that provided you know what colours suit you, and that within an outfit you choose a set of colours that are within the same pallette you will always look fabulous.

Just get out there and rock your outfit!

First things first, some ideas for day time or chillier days:Day time (1)

For day time (or while it’s still a bit chilly) this White Stuff Taylor Falls waterfall cardigan is a lovely complement to the navy pattern. Not only will it help keep you warm, it will look smart for work too. A waterfall cardi is flattering on most figures because you can add a belt if you want to show off your curves, or if you’re not feeling your best it will hide lumps and bumps without making you look like you are wearing a sack (I often find it’s best to size down with this style of cardigan in order to achieve that look).

This White Stuff Daydreamer Scarf in turmeric yellow would provide an extra bit of warmth as well as an additional splash of colour. The red and navy of the dress and cardi are quite deep shades, and the yellow would help lift the tones making it a perfect spring outfit as well as lifting your mood!

I love brogues, and these metallic silver Taylor Beauty brogues from Clarks are gorgeous! They are classic, add something a bit extra to the outfit and will make sure your feet remain comfy during a busy day.

Last but not least we have this covetable Radley Grosvenor Cross Body Bag. The website says the colour is reed green, but it looks yellow to me! In any case, it’s a lovely bag for day time and adds another pop of complementary colour to your day time outfit.

Now some ideas for styling the same Boden dress when the sun makes an appearance, or if you’re out for the evening:

For evening or a cardi for warmer days on top of the same Boden dress I’d suggest the Little Amsterdam cardi in lantern red from White Stuff. During the evening and on warmer days I think you can go (even) bolder with your colour choices. The bright blue Mossy Short Layer Necklace and the Foil Spot scarf in pottery blue (both from White Stuff) provide an interesting balance to the red.

Every outfit needs shoes of course, and I love these Raffi Star sandals from Clarks. The blue shade and the sparkles on the t-bar make a simple pair of sandals feel special. I have these sandals in gold from last summer and they are soooo comfy.

What do you think of these styling suggestions? Would you do anything differently? If you’re reluctant to wear colour would you be persuaded to put more colour in your outfits?
