Blimey the past week has been one hell of a rollercoaster! The week featured some very low times (following Hugo’s second birthday), but some brilliant times, too – and happily it is on the latter the week has ended.
So, what happened…?
Day out in Hitchin
Both Martin and I were in a real funk during the early part of last week, so we took a little trip to Hitchin. The pretty market town is about a 20 minute drive, and with a town centre full of quirky independent shops alongside the usual high street stores it is well worth a visit.
We enjoyed a lunch at The Snug: it included delicious sweet potato fries which is always a winner for me! It’s a bar as well, and looks like it serves wonderful cocktails. Fabulous service too, well recommended.
The day was full of glorious bright winter sunshine – the day lifted our spirits.
I had my gym induction with a personal trainer last week. I know the trainer because he managed the gym I used to attend – he knows about Hugo, he knows me, and he knows how hard I work.
Interestingly, he told me the amount of time I spend doing cardio is counter-productive to my weight loss efforts. That certainly supports the evidence from the scales! During the session, he got me doing circuits using the freestyle band things that hang from the ceiling; free weights; and the Swiss ball, so lots of resistance and using my own body weight.
These exercises involve using muscles I didn’t even know I had – which is the point in terms of burning fat! At one point I thought I was going to throw up but thankfully didn’t…
Despite that I thoroughly enjoyed the session because I got through it, did really well, and I was proud of my core strength and fitness. Psychological bonus as well as physical!
We completed the session with some boxing which I LOVED! A perfect way to expel some of that pent-up anger and stress from the preceding days.
My muscles ached horrendously for a couple of days – but I am going back for more!
White Stuff, my very favourite shop had a 20% sale on. What was I to do?
I treated myself to this pretty tunic: it’s pretty enough in the picture, but it doesn’t do it justice. In real life the colours are much brighter. It’s perfect for spring, and I’m looking forward to the weather being a bit warmer when I’ll be wearing it with jeggings or leggings.
And this lovely necklace also found its way in to my basket…
I started reading Jojo Moyes’ Me Before You last week and have been thoroughly enjoying it. I know it’s been a popular book, but it had kind of passed me by until I happened to spot an ad for the film version which happens to feature The Mother of Dragons (Emilia Clarke) herself.
Some of the characters feel a bit caricature, but the story is captivating. Whenever I have a spare moment I’m finding myself reaching for my Kindle to read a bit more, which says it all!
This afternoon I returned from the most wonderful, inspiring, and fun weekend at the Blognix Retreat. Spending time with some of my gorgeous friends was a treat in itself, I met lots of new friends, and I have come away utterly bursting with creative ideas for Hugo’s Legacy and to expand on many things I am good at.
The event certainly lived up to its promise to:
