The downside of having an other half who is a photographer is having to be endlessly patient on days out waiting for him to get a good shot.
The upside, however, is that you can get amazing headshots for your blog!
My partner Martin is a professional photographer. While he usually focuses on pets (dogs and cats mainly) he has been branching out in to portraiture, too.
While we had been planning to do a shoot for some new profile photos for me, the shoot we did one afternoon a couple of weeks ago was impromptu. We were out for a walk in a local park, the light was good, and there were pretty natural backdrops.
That meant I had on whatever make-up I had put on that morning, and my hair looked whatever it looked like. I put on some lippy (using the selfie mode on my phone as a mirror!) and aside from that small embellishment, the photos are au naturel.
Martin dislikes doing posed portraits, and instead encourages his subject – whether they have four legs or two – to just do whatever they do, and he will photograph around them to get a more natural look. Whether human, canine, or feline he is eager to capture their natural essence rather than something that is forced.
So, for my shoot Martin got me to sit on the ground and look in to the middle distance:
To look at the top of a tree (this is my personal favourite, because as others have observed it looks like I am gazing up at Hugo in the stars).
Funnily enough, this next image was my least favourite but was the one many of my friends liked most (just goes to show others see different things to you about your personal appearance!)
A friend commented this shot has a bit of an Alison Moyet look about it, which it kind of does!
This one has a pensive feel.
The six shots above made it in to the final ones I shared on social media, but there were so many others I wanted to include, too…
Like this shot, which is a bit cheeky!
While this one had a flirty vibe…
An ethereal look…
And finally, another smiley one.
If you would like to book a portrait session with Martin (for a human or an animal!) do get in touch!
