Preparation

This week has all been about preparation.

It’s the Butterfly Awards tomorrow; I’m honoured to have been shortlisted in the blogger/author category.

I was pleased to put the finishing touches to my outfit earlier in the week: I finally found a shrug in the right shade of purple to go with my dress. It’s a black tie do, but I don’t wear black when there are so many pretty colours in the world. Vibrant colours are a tribute to Hugo and to the beauty of life – we asked our guests at Hugo’s funeral to wear bright colours.

The shortlisting is a bittersweet honour: I dearly wish I had no reason to be shortlisted. Since Hugo’s death, my blog has been my lifeline and it has given me purpose, and it is lovely to be recognised.

The cold I have woken up with this morning has arrived with perfect timing – I hope it does not linger.

I have also been preparing my posts for Baby Loss Awareness Week. It is the perfect opportunity to talk about baby loss, the challenges that bereaved parents face, and help break the taboo so all parents feel able to openly talk about the babies they love and miss in equal measure. Hopefully my posts, as well as my Mumsnet guest post will help in this endeavour.  It is a mark of remembrance for Hugo, and for all the other babies who are no longer in their mother’s arms.

Another preparation has been updating the website for Hugo’s legacy. I was unhappy with the platform the original site was on – it was drag-and-drop and far too fiddly, so I changed over to good old WordPress. It took quite a lot longer than I expected to get it how I wanted,(with me swearing at the laptop on several occasions) but I’m happy with the result. I’d love to know what you think.

Best of luck Leigh, you’ve achieved so much in such a short time and to be shortlisted is a real testament to your ability to be heard through your amazingly powerful blog. I’m glad it’s bringing you comfort, as it does me, to write and share the mixture of emotions. I too, find it hard to wear black, it makes me feel gloomy and doesn’t reflect the life we have. I hope the stars shine for you all this week x
